Kidchella 2026 ran from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September at the Surfers Paradise Sign, and has now ended. Entry was free. For families staying at Contessa, the festival made a bright centre to the weekend without having to fill every hour of it.
Kidchella 2026 dates, times and family activities
There was enough in the 2026 programme to fill six hours. Live DJs and a silent disco covered two kinds of dance floor. The skate zone, street-style hoops and beach rugby kept older children moving. An Art Studio and Glam Bar made room for a slower stretch, and the Ferris wheel carried everyone above the beachfront for a wider view.
The temptation was to collect every activity. Letting each child choose one and keeping lunch unhurried left the family room to leave before the day turned into a negotiation. The same 2026 programme ran on Sunday, so anything missed on Saturday had a second chance.

Travel light from Main Beach
The 2026 festival was held at 2 Esplanade, Surfers Paradise. The organiser recommended public transport or active travel because nearby parking could be limited, with Cavill Avenue as the nominated G:link stop.
From Contessa, the light rail is about a 15-minute walk. Surfers Paradise is a five-minute drive when the car suits a family better. In 2026, either route led out of the event precinct and back to Main Beach’s residential streets.
For the 2026 outdoor day, water, hats, sunscreen and clothes that could move between the Art Studio, sand and skate zone were useful. There was no admission ticket or fixed arrival session to keep track of.
Main Beach family accommodation after Kidchella
For a family returning from a busy day in Surfers Paradise, Contessa offers a quieter setting. The rest of that weekend
After a Saturday at Kidchella 2026, Sunday did not need another booking. Main Beach was across the road for an early swim, and Tedder Avenue was a five-minute walk for breakfast or lunch. A second festival visit was possible until 4pm on that Sunday, but the 2026 weekend is now past.
That was the useful shape of the weekend: one busy day by the Surfers Paradise Sign, one open day between the Pacific and the river, and enough room in the apartment for the family to change its mind.
