The 2025 season was lost when Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred and a run of king tides pulled the sand back past the precinct; the beach has since been rebuilt. From Contessa, a block back from the sand on the river side of Main Beach, the weekend arrives on its own terms: the beach for the flying, the quieter side for the hours between. ## A morning at the beach, an afternoon by the river Contessa keeps two waters – the Pacific across the road and the river behind, with a private marina at the back of the building and a broad run of garden holding the two apart. The flying is a morning affair, so the mornings belong to the beach; the afternoons, once the jets have landed, belong to the quieter side, where the garden and pools sit well away from the crowd up the coast. There is a large outdoor pool in the gardens and a heated indoor pool for the cool end of an August day, with a sauna and spa alongside. ## The show over the water The Pacific Airshow is the Australian edition of the long-running Huntington Beach event, first staged here in 2023 and, with 2025 surrendered to the weather, running for only its third time in 2026. The organisers counted more than 270,000 spectators across the 2024 weekend, and the program keeps its established shape: Australian and international performers, jet-team formations and civilian aerobatic acts. The display is held **over the ocean** – the organisers buoy a sterile aerobatic box offshore, patrolled by Queensland Police and on-water security through the flying window, with the ticketed precinct laid out along the sand opposite **Cavill Avenue**. Because the box sits out on the water, the show carries the length of the coast, visible from the sand a block from Contessa as readily as from the precinct itself. You book a specific apartment rather than a category, which matters on a weekend like this: some look straight out at the water, others over the garden and the river, and knowing which is which is the difference between a balcony seat for the show and a fine room facing away from it. Each runs to 178 square metres or more, with a private balcony, a full kitchen and laundry, and air-conditioned open-plan living with ceiling fans in the bedrooms. ## Getting to the precinct Cavill Avenue is a short tram ride south on the G:link from Main Beach station, or a twenty-minute walk down the Oceanway. Inside the gates: gates from 9:00 am, flying from roughly 10:00 am to 3:30 pm, and the full program on all three days, so weather on one is covered by the other two. For families or older guests a seated zone is money well spent; otherwise the free view from the Main Beach end holds its own. ## Four unhurried days The airshow runs Friday to Sunday, but Thursday to Monday is the more comfortable stay: an unhurried Thursday arrival before the crowds, the quieter Friday, the busier weekend, and a slow Monday coffee on Tedder Avenue once the closures lift.
